Rain-bearing cloud covers areas from Ras Ajdir to the Sirte coast and extends towards Benghazi and the Green Mountain, with a maritime warning for winds up to 25 knots
LIBYA – The National Meteorological Centre forecast that rain-bearing thunderclouds will continue to build today, Monday, over parts of the north-west and the Nafusa Mountain, alongside cooler temperatures, with rain covering areas stretching from Ras Ajdir to Misrata and the Sirte coast.
Rain of Varying Intensity and a Warning of Standing Water
The centre said rainfall will range from moderate to significant, especially along the coast, and may cause water to collect in low-lying places, urging the public to take precautions. Conditions are expected to begin stabilising gradually over north-western areas from Thursday.
Cloud Extends to the Green Mountain
It added that cloud will build from time to time over parts of the Green Mountain, with scattered showers this evening covering areas from Benghazi to the Green Mountain heights and its south, alongside scattered thunderstorms.
Significant rain is expected especially over the Green Mountain from tomorrow evening, Tuesday, and may cause water to collect in low-lying places, again requiring caution.
Gradual Temperature Drop in the South and Centre
In the south and centre, little change is expected, with temperatures remaining around seasonal averages and easing gradually from tomorrow.
Maritime Warning for Active Winds
In its fishing bulletin for the Libyan coast today, Monday 14 September 2026, the centre warned of active north-westerly to easterly winds today along the coast from Benghazi to Shahat, and of active south-easterly winds tomorrow along the coast from Derna to Tobruk, reaching 25 knots.
The bulletin is valid from 09:00 GMT this morning until 12:00 GMT tomorrow.
