Autumn fluctuations and thunderstorms across wide areas
Libya – The National Meteorological Centre forecast that unsettled autumn conditions would continue across most of the country from today, Friday 25 September 2026, and over the next two days, with cloud build-up and a chance of thunderstorms ranging from moderate to heavy locally.
Areas under the influence of rain and floods
The centre said rain chances would be clearest today and on Saturday morning over the Western Mountain and areas to its south, Mizda, Ash-Shuwayrif, Al-Qaryat, Tarhuna, Msallata, Bani Walid and surrounding areas, Al-Hamada, Ghadames, Wadi Al-Shati, Ghat and surrounding areas, Ubari, Sebha, the Jufra area, Al-Haruj, Sirte and surrounding areas, as well as parts of the western coast and the Jafara Plain.
It noted that the rain could lead to water pooling in low-lying areas and to flash floods and runoff in some local valleys, with active winds as thunderstorm cells pass, and urged citizens to take precautions, exercise caution and avoid approaching valley courses and water accumulations.
According to the forecasts, the impact of thunderclouds on north-western areas would ease at the start of the week, while it would continue over the far south-west.
Rain chances over the south-east and north-east
The centre also forecast intermittent cloud build-up over south-eastern areas, with a chance of scattered thunderstorms covering Jalu, Al-Sarir, the oases, Tazerbo, northern Kufra and some north-eastern areas, especially on Saturday.
It cautioned that the forecasts are updated periodically on the basis of the latest data and observations, and that some changes may occur as the weather situation develops.
