Wanis calls for international sanctions on smugglers
LIBYA – High Council of State member Saeed Mohamed Wanis has called for international sanctions to be imposed on fuel smugglers, criticising what he regarded as slowness by the UN mission and the international community in resolving the political crisis, which in his view is linked to the persistence of corruption in this file.
A unified executive instead of lifting subsidies
In exclusive comments to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Wanis said the UN mission was now talking about corruption in this file, but it and the international community had been slow to resolve the political crisis and were therefore responsible for the situation.
He said the solution was not to lift subsidies at present, but to speed up the formation of a unified executive authority that would end the division, put sound economic policies in place and control the borders, describing any other remedies as futile.
