Report: Libya Electronic Payments Hit 765 Billion Dinars in Eight Months as Mobile Banking Expands

Surge in mobile payments and security warnings

LIBYA – An economic report published by Singapore-based cybersecurity firm Group-IB said mobile banking services in Libya had expanded sharply, stressing that the rapid growth of these services requires tighter security measures.

New security circular for mobile banking

The report, followed and summarised by Al-Marsad, said the surge coincided with Central Bank of Libya Circular No. 18 of 2026, on the security basis for mobile banking services, coming into force.

765 billion dinars versus 389 billion in 2025

It added that the value of electronic payment transactions from January to August 2026 reached about 765 billion dinars, compared with a total of about 389 billion dinars for the whole of 2025 — nearly double the previous year’s total transactions.

More than 4.29 million users

It noted that the number of users of these services had exceeded 4.29 million, reflecting wider reliance on digital banking transactions.
