Salaries, Allowances and Health Insurance: Teachers in the Central and Western Regions Escalate With a Sit-In

LIBYA – Ashraf Aburawi, head of the Tripoli Teachers’ Union, said members of the newly elected branch unions in the central and western regions met on Monday and decided to begin a sit-in.

Classes Suspended Until Demands Are Met

Speaking to the Fawasel platform, Aburawi said the branch unions had decided to suspend classes in schools and stage a sit-in until teachers’ demands are met.

Salary Alignment and Period Allowances

He stressed that the main demands are aligning teachers’ salaries and paying period allowances, amid rising living costs across the country.

He added that the unions are also calling for health insurance to be activated and for the differentials law on teachers’ pay to be adopted.
