Alamein summit renews support for a political solution — emphasis on Libya’s sovereignty and national unity
Libya – A news report published by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency conveyed the positions of the leaders of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus on developments in the Middle East and North Africa.
Trilateral meeting in Alamein
The report, followed by Al-Marsad for its main points relating to Libya, said those positions came during a meeting held by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the Egyptian city of Alamein.
A Libyan-led solution and simultaneous elections
According to the report, the three leaders renewed their support for political solutions in Libya and stressed the importance of preserving its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity, and of backing a political process led and owned by Libyans themselves.
They also called for the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries, and for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
