2,400 Lyrica strips seized before Tunisia smuggling
LIBYA – Patrols from the Nalut branch of the General Administration of Central Support foiled, on Sunday evening, an attempt to smuggle 2,400 drug strips through the Wazen border crossing.
Car search uncovers hidden strips
The General Administration of Central Support said through its media office that the operation followed members of the patrol becoming suspicious of a Volkswagen Golf vehicle as it crossed the Wazen land border post.
It said the vehicle underwent a thorough and intensive search that led to the seizure of 2,400 strips of the drug Lyrica (a total of 24,000 pills), which had been hidden in secret compartments of the vehicle with the aim of smuggling them into Tunisia.
Seized items and driver referred for investigation
Immediately after the operation, the seized items were secured and referred, together with the vehicle and its driver, to the competent legal authorities to complete investigations and take the necessary deterrent measures.
The General Administration of Central Support expressed thanks and appreciation to the officers, non-commissioned officers and members of the Nalut branch for what it described as their absolute dedication and high alertness, which it said form a safeguard against smugglers and help protect the country’s national and economic security.
