Libya’s Future Rests on Three Main Tracks as Washington Backs Institutional Unification and Elections
Libya – U.S. Presidential Adviser Massad Boulos said, during a ceremony in Washington marking 230 years of U.S.-Libyan relations and attended by Presidential Council member Musa Al-Koni, that Libya’s future is defined by three main tracks that form the foundation for stability, national sovereignty, and broader economic opportunities.
Three Tracks for Libya’s Future
Boulos explained that these tracks include the integration of military and security institutions, strengthening cooperation between the east, west, and south, and consolidating transparency while building a unified economy.
He considered these files a necessary foundation for moving the country toward stability.
Progress Toward Rapprochement
Boulos noted that Libyan leaders had made noticeable progress in recent times toward greater rapprochement, while setting aside differences.
He described this as a positive development in the path of understanding among Libyan parties.
U.S. Support for the UN Roadmap
Boulos affirmed that Washington supports the political roadmap led by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, considering it an essential tool for creating the conditions required to hold elections.
He stressed that the national interest must take precedence over any narrow or competing agendas inside Libya.
Call for an Inclusive Initiative and Political Unity
He added that any future political initiative should be as inclusive as possible and should bring together, and enjoy broad support from, the various regions and institutions.
Boulos emphasized that the United States would be at the forefront of diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing the east and west together and creating the conditions for political unity.
Economic, Military, and Political Unification
Boulos stressed that the time had come to work seriously toward unifying Libya economically, militarily, and politically, considering this to be in everyone’s interest.
He also said the unified budget agreement would enable the formulation of a coherent national economic policy, joint management of oil revenues, and fair distribution of resources.
Tweet Reaffirms Support for Institutions and Elections
In a post on his account on the “X” platform, Boulos said he was honored to speak at the National Council on U.S.-Libya Relations conference, in the presence of Presidential Council Vice President Musa Al-Koni, and to receive the council’s Leadership Award.
He affirmed that the United States would continue supporting Libyan efforts to strengthen institutions, fully implement the unified budget, and move forward on a Libyan-led path toward national elections and long-term prosperity.
