Hajj lottery gets under way on Wednesday at eight centres
LIBYA – The electronic lottery for the 1448 AH/2027 Hajj season gets under way today, Wednesday, 7 October, at 10am, held live and simultaneously at eight draw centres across the country’s regions, according to Ibrahim Al-Saghir, head of the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah.
Draw held at a single time
Speaking by phone on a news bulletin of Libya Al-Ahrar TV, which broadcasts from Turkey and was followed by Al-Marsad, Al-Saghir explained the details and mechanism of the electronic draw, confirming that it would start simultaneously at all eight centres.
Distribution of draw centres
The Tripoli centre covers Tripoli Areas A, B and C and the Tripoli A, B, C and D coordination offices, while the Benghazi centre covers the Benghazi, Benghazi Suburbs and Ajdabiya coordination offices, and the Derna centre covers the Tobruk, Derna and Green Mountain coordination offices.
The Southern Region centre in Sabha covers the Southern Region coordination office, the Misrata centre the Central Region A coordination office and the Sirte centre the Central Region B coordination office, while the Gharyan centre covers the Western Mountain A and B coordination offices and the Zawiya centre the Western Region and Western Coast coordination offices.
1,209,000 registrants, down from 1,500,000 last season
On registration figures, Al-Saghir said the total number of registrants this year had reached around 1,209,000 citizens, fewer than last season, when around 1,500,000 citizens registered.
Libya’s quota of 7,800 pilgrims
He said the draw ratio would depend on Libya’s allocated quota of 7,800 pilgrims, after the shares reserved for those entitled to them have been excluded.
