Libyan side competes strongly against the hosts
Libya – The International Handball Federation said Libya’s national team put in a strong performance against Spain at the Wheelchair Handball World Championship in Spain, despite losing in two sets by 9–7 and 10–5.
First set and Libya’s fightback
In a report followed and whose content was translated by Al-Marsad, the federation said the first three minutes suggested an easy match for the hosts, and Spain led 6–1 after four minutes, but scored only three more points in the first set after Libya’s attack improved. Miguel García Gomar and Lorenzo Info Idjang Nsa scored Spain’s nine points, while the Libyans narrowed the gap to 8–6 before the set ended 9–7.
Closer contest in the second set
The second set was more evenly contested: Spain took a 2–0 lead, then Libya scored three points in a brief spell of improvement. The hosts replied with three consecutive points to lead 5–3, benefiting, according to the report, from repeated Libyan turnovers and missed shots, before closing the set 10–5.
