Lt Gen Saddam Haftar follows up security and services in the south
LIBYA – Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lt Gen Saddam Haftar said the security and safety of citizens and the protection of their rights and property come at the top of the General Command’s priorities, during inspection tours in the southern region that included meetings with security leaders and municipal mayors in Sebha.
Praise for falling crime and raising readiness
Lt Gen Saddam Haftar met leaders of the security agencies in Sebha and discussed the security situation, the level of readiness and coordination among the agencies, and efforts to maintain stability in the cities and areas of the south.
He expressed the General Command’s appreciation for the efforts of security personnel and for what he described as results in reducing crime and strengthening stability thanks to discipline and commitment.
He reiterated that support for the security agencies would continue, along with upgrading their capabilities and meeting their needs to raise their efficiency and ability to carry out their tasks, while maintaining readiness and strengthening cooperation among them.
Mayors present cities’ needs
Lt Gen Saddam Haftar also met mayors of municipalities in the southern region and heard the needs of their cities and areas and the challenges hindering municipal councils from delivering services, especially the lack of support and delayed responses to demands in past years.
He affirmed the General Command’s commitment to supporting all southern municipalities without exception and enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities, stressing the role of mayors in following up needs and dealing with local bottlenecks.
National Development Agency tasked with road and utilities projects
Lt Gen Saddam Haftar directed the National Development Agency to carry out the projects needed to address bottlenecks, particularly roads, facilities and service utilities, taking account of municipalities’ needs and priorities and coordinating with the relevant bodies to ensure progress on projects that affect citizens’ lives.
Comprehensive security and its role in the country’s unity
Lt Gen Saddam Haftar said the concept of security that the General Command works on is not limited to fighting crime, but includes providing an environment in which citizens can live safely, that supports development and improved services, and that opens opportunities for work and investment.
He reiterated the commitment to supporting the south’s security and stability, improving services and responding to residents’ needs, saying that strengthening cohesion among its cities and areas is essential for Libya’s national security, given the south’s geographic expanse and borders.
He added that consolidating security and cohesion in the south helps protect the country’s unity and create the conditions to end the division, unify institutions and restore a single national decision that preserves sovereignty and territorial integrity.
