Oxford Business Group: Investment Opportunities in Libya’s Dairy Sector From Feed to Distribution

Report links growth in Libya’s dairy industry to quality, local inputs and skills development

Libya – A video report by Oxford Business Group highlighted investment opportunities in Libya’s dairy sector, saying it offers growth avenues from feed production and livestock rearing to processing and distribution, despite the challenges it faces.

Quality as the basis of consumer trust

The report, which Al-Marsad followed and translated, said market studies point to rising expectations among Libyan consumers for product quality, shaped by experience with global brands, making high standards essential to building trust in local products. It noted that successful experiences in neighbouring countries and global practices and standards could be used to develop the sector and open the way for Libyan products into regional and international markets.

Localising raw materials and modernising industry

According to the report, the sector is moving toward producing part of its raw materials locally, alongside growth in support services and packaging, reducing reliance on imports and the risk of supply interruptions or shortages of manufacturing inputs. Cutting those risks, it said, strengthens production efficiency and continuity, while industrial investment in Libya allows the adoption of the latest production-line, operating, control and quality-management technologies, as well as investment in human skills.

Al-Nassim’s experience in labour and production

The report relayed views from Ziad Al-Jarushi, head of cooperation, communication and social responsibility at Al-Nassim Food Industries, and Youssef Al-Suwaihli, head of production, on developing the industry and the role of local staff.

Al-Jarushi said Al-Nassim is among the largest dairy and food companies operating in Libya, supporting the economy and meeting local market needs to high quality standards, with Libyan youth making up more than 90% of its workforce. He said the company believes in developing national skills to build a strong, sustainable private sector, and that its vision covers production, community development and driving the Libyan economy.

Al-Suwaihli said the company uses advanced technology and equipment to ensure product safety and quality from raw-material supply through to the consumer, applying precise laboratory testing standards. It is developing supply chains and partnerships with local farmers to provide fresh natural milk, support farms and sustain production. Commitment to quality and development, he said, makes its products citizens’ first choice, with ambitions to expand and improve further.
