Parliamentary backing pushes the mini-meeting track forward
LIBYA – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya welcomed the House of Representatives’ endorsement of the mini-meeting agreement signed on 30 August 2026, as reflected in the House session held yesterday in Benghazi under Counsellor Aguila Saleh and in an earlier joint statement by 103 MPs.
In a statement posted by its media office on its Facebook page, the mission described the support as an important step forward.
Broad Support for a Consensus Path
The mission said the broad endorsement of the mini-meeting agreement underscored the importance of moving ahead on a consensus path that leads to national elections.
A Core Element of the Road Map
It said the mini-meeting was a core element of the wider UN-facilitated political road map, arguing that success in addressing the first two fundamental steps in the political process would help efforts to overcome the current political deadlock.
Commitment to a Libyan-Led Process
The mission reiterated its commitment to supporting and facilitating a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process aimed at ending the political stalemate, unifying national institutions and strengthening their performance, and creating conditions for inclusive, credible parliamentary and presidential elections that meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.
